AV Dawson, owner and operator of Port of Middlesbrough, has put the environment first by organising a local litter pick to mark ‘Good Business Week.’
Good Business Week promotes and celebrates businesses like AV Dawson, which have secured Good Business Charter (GBC) accreditation. The award, which AV Dawson achieved in Summer 2023, recognises businesses that are operating as “responsible businesses” across a number of areas.
A number of colleagues from across the Teesside business participated in the litter pick, which began on its site at Riverside Park in Middlesbrough and stretched down to the public park at Teessaurus Park.
Charlie Nettle, group managing director, said:
“We wanted to do something specific this week to show our support for Good Business Week. This illustrates our support of the community and the environment, while also being a great opportunity for some teamwork, bringing different colleagues together from across the business.
“We are immensely proud of our site and our local area, so want to ensure we look after it.”
To achieve Good Business Charter status, UK companies of all sizes must demonstrate being a responsible business by achieving set criteria in ten areas, including employee wellbeing, supplier management and environmental accountability.
The Teesside business organised several initiatives to celebrate Good Business Week, including creating awareness videos and posters.
Louise Croce, people and culture director, said:
“We are very proud to be an accredited Good Business Charter company. This week has been about celebrating our GBC status and how it benefits our colleagues, customers, wider stakeholders and of course, our planet.
“We’ve had a great week engaging with our colleagues and customers about the accreditation through videos and information and helping them understand why the accreditation is important to us and to them.
“Being an accredited GBC business illustrates to all of our stakeholders that we are a responsible business.”
Charlie continued:
“The accreditation firmly aligns with our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy, which we have developed to support our journey to net zero and which we are extremely passionate about.
“As part of the Good Business Charter and our ESG strategy, we have committed to reducing our environmental impact and continually reviewing and improving our environmental performance.”
